The most important part of your life

A friend told me that driving her son home from school recently, she’d started thinking about her aunt who had terminal cancer and her uncle who had just died unexpectedly and her cousin, who was pregnant with a child who would never get to know her grandparents.

“Your relationships are the single most important part of your life,” she’d told her son.

The smell of burnt coffee rose from the mug in my hands, and a few tears fell from my eyes.
